Lamp Post
by Emma Albani '24
Only one
the light flickering,
the stars nowhere in sight,
just one flickering lamp post
all alone on a lonely night.
Only one
the light flickering,
the stars nowhere in sight,
just one flickering lamp post
all alone on a lonely night.
The moon is nowhere in sight
light is bright in one window
silent as a girl looks out
writing a story with books at her side,
a candle flickering
almost waiting to leap in front of her eyes.
Time ticks slowly,
carefully.
The candle still burning,
the lamp post still shining,
the girl still writing.
Slowly time passes,
as the sun comes up.
The girl stares wishfully at the lamppost
vanishing as the rays of sun hit her,
and the candle blows out.
