Who was your most influential teacher and why?
Dr. Gillin was my most influential teacher because she introduced me to deeper, more complex facets of a subject I have enjoyed learning about for a long time but never thought I would want to pursue. She made me a better writer, helped me learn research skills, and also supported me greatly as my teacher in ninth and eleventh grade, and throughout the college process.

What was your most memorable experience at Shipley?
My most memorable experience at Shipley was performing in The Addams Family musical this year. This was my first time having a major role in a show, and the cast became incredibly close-knit and I had a lot of fun in rehearsals and performing.

What does Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing mean to you?
To me, Shipley's motto means to approach new situations with courage and interact with others with grace.

Complete this sentence: Shipley has prepared me to…
…be in a high-intensity academic environment and balance school with my extracurriculars.

Reflections on your time at Shipley:
Shipley has prepared me for college by introducing me to a high-intensity academic environment and helping me hone my time management and organization skills while helping me realize that I will be okay if I take risks in the future. I took a risk by joining the cross country team my freshman year; after being encouraged to join by Coach Lyon (who was also my eighth-grade English teacher), I was not expecting to continue it for all of high school. However, I enjoyed the camaraderie of the team and decided to continue. I was able to greatly improve throughout all four years, was captain senior year, and am incredibly grateful for my experience as a runner for Shipley Cross Country.

The biggest "aha moments" I can think of throughout my time at Shipley are when I finally determined what I wanted to study in college. My interest in US history truthfully began in fourth grade, my first year at Shipley; I vividly remember the colony project we did in fourth grade. I was always interested in the subject, but after finishing the US history course at the end of eleventh grade, I knew that this was what I wanted to pursue. It is a topic I am truly interested in and am excited to dive deeper into as I move into college academics. I have a similar feeling about journalism: I have written for The Beacon since tenth grade and realized this year that journalism is something I might want to pursue in the future. I've found that I truly enjoy researching, writing articles, editing, and piecing the paper and its layout together, and am excited to explore a journalism minor in college as well as writing for a collegiate newspaper.
