How Shipley Shaped Me
I am so grateful to be able to say that I am a Shipley alumna. I want to work in the communications field, which means working with other people will be a large part of my future. Every experience I’ve had at Shipley has taught me how to interact, debate, and create with my peers. Shipley also taught me how to effectively communicate with others. From group projects to handbell ensembles, I know that working with others can be a challenge. While they all may be great, many people have different opinions on how things should be done. Shipley taught me efficient ways to talk with my peers and different ways to get my point across successfully and reach a fair compromise.

Most importantly, Shipley has taught me to embrace my uniqueness. Shipley is one of the most accepting and supportive places. We truly are a family here and I was lucky enough to grow up in a place that encouraged my differences. Now as a young adult, I am not afraid to go out into the world and be myself. I am confident in my own skin and know that I am living my best self.

Most Memorable Experience
My most memorable experience occurred my senior year. I do not know if that is because I was cherishing my final moments on Shipley’s campus, but seeing my acorn hand me my first diploma is something I will never forget. I’ve always loved the acorns to oaks tradition; it is even something that Elon University practices as well. Knowing that for the past year I have been a role model to my acorn and seeing her be proud of me as I finish my high school career is heartwarming.

Plans for Fall 2017
I will be attending Elon University as an intended communications major.

Future Ambition
I want to work in the field of digital media. In today’s day and age, the internet is something that cannot be ignored. Every day new apps and social media crazes are being created and information is constantly being spread around. I want to be a part of that conversation whether it be through marketing, advertising, or journalism. I feel as if nothing goes unnoticed on the internet; so, if I can share my own thoughts and opinions online, then maybe somewhere I can inspire somebody else.
