Who was your most influential teacher and why?
Over the past thirteen years, I have had the amazing opportunity to learn from several amazing teachers but my most influential teacher would be Mr. Goren. Although the courses he taught were some of my most difficult courses, Mr. Goren never failed to bring amazing enthusiasm and energy to the classroom and made learning the subject engaging. I have always enjoyed studying the sciences, however, his role in teaching me furthered my interest and love for science.

What was your most memorable experience at Shipley?
I would say I have had two extremely memorable experiences at Shipley. As Senior Class President, one of the major tasks I had to take on was planning the Spring Fling Event and Prom. After many hours of planning these events, one of the most amazing feelings was finally getting to the day of the event and experiencing it and seeing all of the decisions I’d made in action. The second was winning the FSL championship with my field hockey team senior year. It was an amazing experience because it felt like all of the hard work our team had put in paid off and we were able to celebrate our accomplishment.

What does Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing mean to you?
To me, the Shipley Motto means that you should be willing to try new things, but also, act respectfully regardless of the outcome.

Complete this sentence: Shipley has prepared me to…
…to take risks for topics, causes, and people that I am passionate about.

Reflections on your time at Shipley:
Shipley has been like a second home to me for the past twelve years and has played a major role in shaping the young woman I am today. During my time at Shipley, I was provided with the opportunity to take chances in every facet of life. Socially I was able to form bonds that I will never forget. I was also taught how to respectfully approach almost anyone which is a skill that has proved to be extremely helpful in my journey. Academically I was challenged in ways that shaped me into the student and learner that I am today. The teachers at Shipley also showed me that I could apply what I learned in the classroom to something I love. The Shipley community also pushed me to change to way I look at almost any situation because it instilled in me the idea that context is everything and that although I have one perspective there are many other ways to look at a situation. In my junior year I started the Asian Student Alliance with this same idea and to ensure that every student on campus felt heard and valued in our community. I am confident in my abilities to succeed in all of my future endeavors because of this community.
