Investment & Impact In the Classroom

Middle School Language Program
During the 2021-2022 academic year, the Middle School language team used immersion-based teaching, and the growth in language acquisition and comprehension was amazing. Students were connected using pen pal relationships, which is an effective way to have students communicate with their peers in the target languages. The Latin team also developed a new course that sixth graders will take focused on Humanities. Students will examine art, sculpture, and architecture from ancient Mediterranean civilizations (including Greece, Rome, Egypt, and the Near East) in order to develop their visual literacy skills and understand the lasting influence of these ancient cultures on the modern world. Upper School Advisory Program
Last year, the Upper School laid the groundwork for developing an innovative Advisory Program that recognizes the individual needs of students who have faced unique challenges both socially and emotionally due to the pandemic and in today’s world. With an investment in professional development for faculty directly involved in this new initiative at Shipley, the goal is to implement the program fully for the 2022–2023 school year. The expected outcomes of the Advisory Program will be a renewed emphasis on each student’s individual well-being and academic success, and will integrate with Shipley’s brand of Educational Excellence.

From the Classroom, Into the World
Some of our most memorable experiences as students are the ones teachers curate for us outside of the classroom. After two years of COVID restrictions, Shipley students and their teachers ventured out into the world during the 2021-2022 school year. Scroll through a slideshow of images from some of the trips, originally featured in the Summer/Fall 2022 Shipley Magazine.

Building Creativity in Middle School STEAM
The Middle School STEAM program has undergone incredible expansion in recent years. The growing program allows students to explore their creativity as they learn how to operate new tools and technologies. STEAM teacher John Harris is excited about the future, and with good reason. With investments in tools and faculty support, your philanthropic support is making an impact on this exciting program. Learn a little more about what's happening in Middle School STEAM.
