Carlos Casilla Wins Outstanding Young Conductor Award

Congratulations to Director of Choirs, Carlos Casilla, for receiving The American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Outstanding Young Conductor Award, which recognizes the efforts of a new or aspiring choral director who, in their first 3 to 5 years of experience has already demonstrated outstanding leadership or musicianship in the field of choral music.

In order to qualify for the award, candidates had to meet the following criteria:
  • full or part-time continuous employment as a choral conductor in Pennsylvania for 3 - 5 years
  • outstanding leadership and musicianship in any choral field - education, sacred music, or other professional choral music making
  • impact on the size or quality of their program including significant contributions to the program and/or musical life of others as measured by the number of participants, improved quality, and/or community impact
  • special consideration may be given to active members of ACDA.

Founded in 1959, the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) is a nonprofit music-education organization whose expressed purposes outline the associations dedication to the advancement of choral music. ​The mission of ACDA is to inspire excellence in choral music through education, performance, composition, and advocacy.

Mr. Casilla, who also serves as Shipley's PreK - Grade 12 Performing Arts Chair, teaches students and directs Shipley's choirs in Lower, Middle, and Upper School. He has been a member of the Shipley community since 2017. Read more about Mr. Casilla in this Music Faculty Q&A.
