Upper School Students Compete in Science Olympiad Invitational

On Saturday, December 3, Shipley’s Upper School Science Olympiad team participated in the 2nd Annual Dick Smith Memorial Invitational. A fundraiser for Pennsylvania’s Science Olympiad, the virtual tournament consisted of 73 B Division teams representing 38 schools and 76 C Division teams representing 46, all in the contiguous United States. 

Competing in the B Division, Shipley’s Upper School team finished 31 out of 74 teams. The following students placed in individual events:

Trajectory: 8th of 16 (Henry Palmer & Takumi Kubo)
Forensics: 9th of 59 (Doris Du & Takumi Kubo)
Bridge: 13th of 17 (Ashley McCauley & Rikki Teicher)
Anatomy & Physiology: 14th of 60 (Hailey Li & Nina Letts)
Disease Detectives: 19th of 59 (Rikki Teicher We & Nina Letts)

The Upper School team is captained by Bambi Tang, Emily Kucharczuk, and Richard Liu. Other members include Ashley McCauley, Brandon Lee, Doris Du, Ethan Lee, Finn Buckley, Hailey Li, Henry Palmer, Katherine Foulke, Keith Brennan, Leo Liu, Nina Letts, Oliver Kourula, Rikki Teicher, Rohail Ahmad, and Takumi Kubo.

The team will be back in action on December 17 at The Battle at Valley Forge at Conestoga High School.
