Reflections on Shipley
Shipley welcomed me into the community since I was in Kindergarten. Whether it is marching to Ashbridge Park for Westward Ho, or winning the fifth-straight Friends Schools League Championship with the baseball team, Shipley gives everyone opportunities that cannot be found anywhere else. The School provides a supportive environment for taking risks and a comfortable place to grow into our own individuals. Whether you are the theater kid who plays tennis, the basketball player who sings in Shipley Singers, or like me, the baseball player who plays the violin, there is no combination that cannot be found at Shipley. By encouraging everyone to try everything, the Shipley community prepared me in ways I could never imagine.
Who was your most influential teacher and why?
It is hard to pick just one, but two come to mind. Both Mr. Clement and Dr. Rebholz changed my perspective about my own abilities, academically. Mr. Clement, who was my advisor all four years and my 12th-grade anatomy teacher, was the exact person I needed to guide me through high school and was always dependable for support. Dr. Rebholz made his courses engaging and interactive, as he always seemed to venture outside of the classroom for both economics and pre-calculus.
What was your most memorable experience at Shipley?
My most memorable experience at Shipley occurred when the baseball team won the FSL title during my freshman year. Luckily, we were able to go on and win three more, but the first win was the most special because I was able to experience it alongside my brother.
What are your plans for the fall of 2019?
I will be attending Tulane University in New Orleans.
What is your future ambition and what led you to this ambition?
I do not know specifically what I want to do, but Shipley has given me the opportunity to find many of my interests. Shipley encouraged my interests in music, anatomy, economics, and a lot more. With the variety of classes, I was able to take, it is hard to choose a subject I enjoy the most.
What does Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing mean to you?
Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing means to have the self-confidence to step out of your comfort zone in your search for success, but have modesty and appreciation for others while doing so.
What impact or contributions do you think you have made at Shipley and in the larger community?
Shipley gave me and a lot of other students numerous opportunities to have an impact on the School and also the larger surrounding communities. Along with my friends on student government and the administration, I think we were able to put together the best Super Saturday in school history. It was awesome to plan events like that all year long.
