Ashleigh Gundy ’18 Receives the Tina Sloan Green Award

In the fall of 2021, Ashleigh Gundy ’18 was named the inaugural winner of the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Tina Sloan Green Award, which recognizes teams or individuals working to promote equity and inclusion. The award is named in honor of the first black head coach in the history of women’s intercollegiate lacrosse. Gundy is currently a senior at Cornell University, where she plays on the women’s lacrosse team.

Following the murder of George Floyd, Gundy created a documentary titled “Where Do We Go From Here?” featuring athletes from Cornell, Brown, Yale, Michigan, George Washington, and Colgate, who candidly discussed their experiences as Black student-athletes, the intersection of race and sport, and the systemic flaws embedded in the criminal justice system. Gundy serves as chairwoman for Cornell’s Black Student Athlete Committee, is a member of the Women of Color in Cornell Athletics (WOCA) group, and is the Vice President of Internal Relations for Cornell’s BlackGen Capital group, a 100% minority-owned, student-run investment fund at Cornell. BlackGen Capital works to open doors for underrepresented students interested in entering the financial services industry.
