A Welcoming Spirit At first, coming into Shipley midway through my freshman year, I was scared. I didn’t know anyone and I was pretty shy, but everyone – teachers and students alike – were welcoming and helpful. These feelings continued throughout my years at Shipley, and I saw the same thing happen with other students who joined our class. Shipley instilled this welcoming spirit in me, and it was helpful in all other areas of my life.
A Love of Learning My teachers challenged me and made me more likely to continue my learning outside of the classroom, something I hadn’t really done before. There is a certain love of learning that the Shipley community tries to teach, and it is present in the classroom. This was essential in making me enjoy coming to school every day.
My First Day My most memorable experience was coming to Shipley halfway through my freshman year. I did not know anyone on my first day, but I remember everyone being extremely helpful and nice to “the new kid.” This warm welcome is not only my most memorable experience, but also my favorite.
Plans for Fall 2015 I will be attending the University of Mississippi and beginning to study history and education.
Future Ambition My future ambition is to be a history teacher; whether at the high school or college level I am not sure. My love of history, knowing that I love to work with kids, and the desire to help others learn and try to instill in them a love of learning led me to this.
The Shipley School is a private, coeducational day school for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students, located in Bryn Mawr, PA. Through our commitment to educational excellence, we develop within each student a love of learning and a desire for compassionate participation in the world.
