  • Academics

Shipley offers a rigorous, college preparatory curriculum. Beginning in Lower School, students develop a strong academic foundation and students as young as Pre-K learn to think critically about the world around them while encouraged to explore their interests and creativity. Our curriculum Pre-K through 12 sets the stage for students to acquire the skills to be effective and engaged learners at every stage of development. They learn to analyze, synthesize and think critically, to ask listen carefully and ask questions, to communicate clearly and persuasively, and to cooperate and collaborate with others. These are the foundational skills that will prepare them for future success throughout school and in their lives.

Our Middle School program embraces the world of the adolescent, recognizing that they are developing physically, emotionally, socially, and intellectually. When guidance and empathy fit into the context of an academically challenging curriculum, our Middle School students are able to get to know themselves as learners, and as people, through critical thinking and creative exploration.

The Upper School curriculum challenges students to discover their passions and their potential, and to take their education to the next level. Students are encouraged to see how ideas overlap across academic disciplines, building interdisciplinary knowledge and gaining the confidence and self-awareness that will carry them through college and the future.
