Young Alumni Award - Presented to David Lieberman '98 May 4, 2018

The Young Alumni Award recognizes a Shipley alumna or alumnus who has graduated within the preceding twenty-five years and demonstrates innovation, curiosity, and creativity in the pursuit of excellence in a particular field, whether it be in a profession, through formal volunteer activities unrelated to the School, or through a personal commitment to an issue, project, or cause.
During his time at Shipley, Dave was a member of the Madriguys and starred in a leading role in all four of the Upper School musicals. He graduated in 1998, and matriculated to Yale after taking a gap year where he performed across Europe as a member of the Philadelphia Boys’ Choir. Dave studied political science at Yale but developed a passion for cooking while hosting a 30 minute public television show called “Campus Cuisine.” After Yale, David published his first cookbook, “Young and Hungry,” and went on to host the “Good Deal with David Lieberman” show on the Food Network. He later hosted another show called “Eat This,” and went on to publish another cookbook called “Dave’s Dinners.” In 2012 David decided to revisit another of his passions - medicine. He graduated from Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in 2016 and is now an Internal Medicine Resident at the University of Pennsylvania.
In recognition of his success in not one but two careers at such a young age, his courage and creativity in forging his own path, and his passion in pursuit of his areas of interest, the Alumni Council named him this year’s recipient of the Young Alumni Award.
