Fall 2019 Encore Clubs

Mondays
Baseball Club – (Grades 2-5): Join Varsity Assistant Coach Paul Komorowski for a club featuring baseball fundamentals such as hitting, fielding, base running and pitching.  A game will be played each day.  
 
Build You Own Empire - (Grades 3-5): Mr. Zubair - A interactive game that teaches kids the value of compound interest and other financial fundamentals like mortgages, writing checks and building your credit. Kids play strategy games to earn money that they invest. In culmination, we will have an Olympic day where teams play each other in physical activity games.

Jr. Hardware Engineering: Scratch with Makey Makey - (Grades PreK-2): EFK – When your favorite song comes on the radio do you sit quietly or do you dance around and play the air drum solo? In Musical Adventures with Scratch and Makey Makey, we are going to explore how different sounds are created and we will create our own interpretations of common musical instruments like drums, piano, guitar, and even a recorder, and we will create our very own dancing program, all through the use of Makey Makey and Scratch to bring our music to life! The last day will end with a bang, or at least a really great mini concert from all of our students!

Homework Club
– (Grades 3-5): Ms. Mason – Supervised homework room where students will be supported to stay on task and be held accountable for their homework. Once the homework is complete, children can use the remainder of time to read or do an independent activity.
 
Sewing and Crafts - (Grades 2-5): Ms. Leschinsky - A typical afternoon in Sewing Club consists of a lot of sewing and a lot of fun! We will learn how to hand sew and then apply what we’ve learned to make fabulous projects.
 
Tuesdays
Creative Cooking - (Grades PreK-2, MAX of 12): Ms. Sklow - Using the science of cooking we will explore the realm of combining popular ingredients to create delectable snacks and ooey gooey concoctions.

FUEL
– (Grades 1-2): Coach Kathryn Poet - FUEL helps to teach kids of all ages about fitness and fundamentals. It helps them build confidence through boxing.
Classes are tailored to the ages it is offered to and all children earn boxing gloves at the end of the semester. Comfortable clothing is recommended.
 
Maker-Space Club - (Grades 3-5) MAX of 18): Mr. Del Duca AND Ms. Donovan - Students can work on We-Do robotics and Mind-storm robotics. Students can work on building and making with electronics, Little Bits, LED lights and materials found in the maker-space. Fun, Fun! 
 
 
Wednesdays

Incredible Edibles – (Grades 3-5): Ms. Sklow – We will use popular ingredients to create fun, delicious snacks.
 
Jiu Jitsu and Self Defense – (Grades K-2 and 3-5): Noah Spear and Lisa Isaacs - Children will build skill, character, and fitness as they learn the techniques and body positions to engage their base with ground control spin, shin, and chin self-defense moves. Learn the physics of escaping like ‘cap the candle’ and finding your knee ‘mountain’ and ‘alligator’ your body to connect your elbow ‘nub’ to your knee! Come play Jiu Jitsu, it’s a language and game of human chess! We use our imaginations to understand the movements, it’s so much fun!
 
Latino Dance – (Grades PreK-5): Señora Bermúdez - As an extension of Spanish class, Señora Bermúdez will offer informal sessions of modern and traditional dances from Latin America. This club will be bilingual (English-Spanish) and will introduce students to various Latin American music and dance genres. Students will learn basic dance steps and will also have a chance to discover their own style. Students are only required to bring comfortable clothing (gym clothes, tennis shoes, etc.)
 
Tennis - (Grades 2-5): Mr. Caddle
 
Pottery/Clay – (Grades 1-5): Mrs. Wattles – Come sculpt, form and play with different types of clay. Projects made in class will be sent home once complete.
 
Thursdays
BSD Coding Roblox (Grades 3-5) – Students become game developers using the popular Roblox® gaming platform. With this unique software, students learn the fundamentals of game development by using a variety of sophisticated but intuitive 3D game development tools. Energy will be at an all-time high as students build multiplayer games, create interactive stories, design car racing scenarios and much more.
 
FUEL - (Grades 3-5) - Jen Compton, owner and instructor. FUEL is a new program created to help kids get involved in a sport that focuses on individual performance and intertwines teamwork. Boxing fitness is known to build confidence and to teach discipline. It is a sport/activity that requires attention, coordination, and movement. Classes are tailored to the ages it is offered to and all children will earn boxing gloves at the end of the semester. Comfortable clothing is recommended.
 
Little Rockers – (Grades PreK-2): Mr. Zubair - A music class that rocks out and has an educational purpose too! Ear training/rhythm training/matching pitch are just a few things that will be taught. All fundamentals that can be taught at a young age. The goal is to have a fun time with music, singing, and dance.
 
Fridays
Animation – (Grades 1-5): Mr. Caddle - If you enjoy being creative with cartoons and like making up funny stories then Animation Club could be the club for you. We use Frames 6 software to create short movies with characters you choose yourself.
You will learn to make movie frames, add speech bubbles and develop movement, as well as a host of other skills.
 
Bombardment (4th and 5th GRADE ONLY): Mr. Wareikis/Mrs. Early - MAX of 40 students
 
Fun with Books! – (Grades 1-2): Mrs. Giaccio – Come explore the world of children’s literature with Mrs. Giaccio. Each week we will learn about different children’s authors and illustrators. Children will participate in activities related to topics, books, and authors.
 
Shining Knights Chess - (Grades PreK-5, minimum of 8 to run): Coach Steve -
Our coaches are highly-rated professional chess instructors. We have taught tens of thousands of children to play, including national champions for first and second grade. Chess time is evenly split between lesson and play. All chess supplies are provided.
